Forum: audio Subject: no FAQ on "batting average"

I've been trying to find out what is meant by batting average and there if no FAQ on it. I thought it might be the ratio of downloads to hits but I'm not certain.
I also noted that a download to the itunes program when a title is a link in a podcast doesn't alter the count. So what constitutes a download is also a mystery.
FAQ please.

you're right, it isn't in the FAQ, i'll have to add that!

on this page, for instance:

there is a link in the upper right corner next to batting average that says "What is this?"

What are Batting Averages?
The batting average of an item in the Archive is the percentage of people who downloaded the item after visiting its details page (statistically corrected to account for small sample sizes).Ranking by batting average can highlight interesting items that may not yet have received a lot of visits, and it avoids the "rich-get-richer" behavior of ranking by the number of downloads.
